About

The League

Fun, welcoming, at times hostile — and always competitive.

BLACKOUTMKE Golf League exists to provide a fun, welcoming, at times hostile, and competitive league where you can enjoy time drinking, playing golf with friends, and taking your frustrations out on a beautifully manicured patch of land. We aim to represent the pureness of golf — one shotgun at a time.

Founded by Michael King, the BGL is a one-person-team league: just you, your handicap, and whatever you talked yourself into on the first tee.

The basics

  • · No season dues — we play tournament by tournament. Each event is a $50 buy-in, winner-take-most (see Payouts).
  • · We play low net — your score minus your handicap. Your handicap is your typical score minus 72, capped at 36 (shoot around 100 and you're a 28; around 90 and you're an 18). Being bad works in your favor.
  • · Everyone plays the same tee box — the middle/white tees.
  • · Course and cart fees are on you the day you play.

Payouts

Every tournament is a $50 buy-in, winner-take-most. After third gets their money back, the rest of the pot is split:

  • · 3rd place — your $50 buy-in back.
  • · 1st place — 75% of the remaining pot.
  • · 2nd place — the remaining 25%.

House rules

  • · Play fast. Ready golf — hit when you're ready, not when it's your turn, as long as no one's at risk of being hit.
  • · Max score is double par — pick up at 6 on a par 3, 8 on a par 4, 10 on a par 5.
  • · Breakfast ball — one tee-shot mulligan, front nine only. Use it or lose it; it doesn't carry to the back.
  • · Trouble (lost ball, out of bounds, water, deep woods, unplayable): add one stroke and drop within two club lengths of where it went in, no closer to the hole. Look for a ball 90 seconds, max.
  • · Bad lies (divot, cart path, sprinkler, mud, bare dirt): lift, clean, and place within 6 inches, no closer to the hole. In a bunker, keep it in the bunker.
  • · No gimmes — putt everything out.
  • · Closest to the pin — $5 buy-in, cash to Mike on the first tee, played on the last par 3. Winner takes the pot.
  • · Questions or rules disputes go to Mike. Play a provisional, keep moving, and settle it after the round.

The turn

The league has one tradition: a single beer at the turn, before teeing off on #10, in honor of BLACKOUTMKE. It's a suggestion, not a rule — no penalty, no expectation. Skip it if you want. There are no other drinking rules in this league, and none tied to scoring or play.

If you drink at all, arrange your ride home before the round starts. Never drink and drive — no exceptions, no discussion.

Officers

President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Coordinator — Michael King. Yes, all of them.
